Expanded Sponsorship Program and Project Activities at Terre des Hommes Denmark

Great news has arrived at Terre des Hommes Denmark. Throughout the spring and summer, there has been a flurry of activity and important meetings regarding the takeover of DIA’s sponsorship programs. In light of DIA’s board decision to wind down its activities, Terre des Hommes Denmark has taken over seven different sponsorship programs across South America, Asia, and Africa.

We are very grateful for the great trust DIA has shown in Terre des Hommes and appreciate seeing the compatible connection with our own projects, which also include various sponsorship programs in Asia and Africa. At the same time, we look forward to working with NGOs in South America and especially the new sponsors.

The takeover of DIA’s sponsorship programs helps to strengthen and consolidate TDH, with new sponsors and members, allowing us to help even more children in need. Today, Terre des Hommes Denmark, including its board and sponsorship leaders, consists of 21 dedicated volunteers who are committed to making a difference for children around the world.

A big thank you to DIA’s management, board of directors, administration, freelancers, and board members.

Terre des Hommes Denmark

Terre des Hommes Denmark (TDHDK) is a humanitarian association approved by the Fundraising Board under the Ministry of Justice with a §4 license. TDH was founded in 1967 and is part of the Terre des Hommes International Federation, headquartered in Switzerland. In accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, it helps children in need with protection, food, health, and education, regardless of background, race, or religion.

At Terre des Hommes Denmark, we all work voluntarily, and today, including our board and sponsorship leaders, we have 21 volunteers. Our quality signature is that all the funds collected go directly to the children in the projects, which today include 33 projects across Asia, Africa, and South America. Our dedicated volunteerism also helps keep administrative expenses to an absolute minimum.

DIA – Danish International Adoption

DIA has been the only mediation organization for international adoptions in Denmark. The organization has been an independent, self-governing institution accredited by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Senior Citizens. In addition to international adoptions, DIA also had a number of sponsorship programs around the world.

DIA has operated according to the principle of subsidiarity, which means that a child should be helped as close to their family and home country as possible. Adoption from the home country should always be the absolute last resort to ensure the child has a family and secure social framework.

In January 2024, the government halted all adoptions from 69 countries to Denmark, and in this context, DIA’s board decided to wind down its activities.

The CSR Award goes to Ganløse Kro

The award was presented to the owner of Ganløse Kro, Jan Bergmann, by our national chairman Linda Svartzengren, in front of a completely sold-out gala show. A personal speech was given to Jan Bergmann for being a company with a social responsibility. The speech reads:

“Today we want to recognize and celebrate a company that has shown extraordinary dedication to making a difference in the lives of children in need.

It is with great joy and pride that Terre des Hommes presents this special CSR award to Ganløse Kro.

Through our annual gala show, you have not only managed to create the framework for a fantastically inspiring and entertaining day, but you have also managed to channel resources and attention to those who need it most.

Your efforts have not had a superficial effect, no it has actually changed lives. By supporting children in need, you have created hope, opportunities and a brighter future for many who would otherwise be trapped in the dark.

It is therefore with great pleasure that we present this CSR award to Ganløse Kro today.

Your commitment, humanity and vision deserve our deepest respect and recognition.

Together, let’s continue to inspire each other to do more, and let’s always remember that our actions have the power to create a better world for us all.”

Terrifyingly beautiful Ganløse Galashow for the benefit of Terre des Hommes Denmark
Again this year, the Ganløse Galashow in favor of Terre des Hommes Denmark was a terrific experience with a full house. Our national ambassador Jan Schou, his dear acting colleagues and the entire staff at Ganløse Kro, took a day out of the calendar and performed and worked for free for the benefit of Terre des Hommes Denmark. A day with lots of fun, laughter, music, raffle and charitable commitment.

The Gallashow on 19 March 2023 was visited by the weekly magazine HERogNU and the mention was made in the weekly magazine. The pictures speak for themselves.

This year’s CSR Award is awarded to Bravo Tour
Terre des Hommes Denmark has awarded a CSR award to Bravo Tours, which has supported TDH DK over the years. Our national ambassador Jan Schou has on several occasions been the prime mover in annual auctions at the Holiday Fair in Herning. Therefore, Jan Schou was also together with Terre des Hommes Denmark’s national chairman Linda Svartzengren when the award was presented to Bravo Tour’s director Peder Hornshøj in Herning.

The reason for the award by our National Chairman Linda Svartzengren:

“Bravo Tours puts the guest at the center and creates great holiday experiences, but you also think and act selflessly and with great social responsibility in civil society far from Denmark. Is there anything more beautiful than giving underprivileged children a chance in a merciless world?

You have faithfully contributed to this for many years – and therefore Terre des Hommes Denmark would like to recognize you for the responsibility you are taking on:

Your support provides, among other things, children the opportunity to go to school, the disabled girl who is given a chance in life or perhaps the boy or girl who learns about sustainable agriculture. The many touching Christmas greetings we receive from the children each year say it all. It’s big – and regardless of where Terre des Hommes Denmark operates, you help support our operation.”

UKRAINE: Terre des Hommes Denmark and Terre des Hommes Switzerland in collaboration for aid to Ukraine

We see and hear terrible pictures and news from the war in Ukraine. Millions of women and children who flee and who have to say goodbye to their husbands and fathers who have to stay behind and fight for Ukraine. At train stations in several cities, the women and children have been queuing for hours, in cold, fear and exhaustion. Some do not come at all when the trains finally arrive and have to give up or the women ask strangers to take the children and save them. Therefore, there are also children who flee alone from the war in Ukraine, without their parents or family to look after them. This makes them extra vulnerable and exposed to violence, abuse and exploitation.

Professional teams and motorhomes at border crossings
TDH Denmark and TDH Switzerland have joined forces to help the children and women fleeing Ukraine and across the borders to neighboring countries; Moldova, Romania and Hungary. There has been a great lack of coordination in the reception of the distraught women and children, fleeing from war, bombs and destruction. Therefore, nine motorhomes are located at the border crossings in the three countries, where both a social worker, a psychologist, a nurse, Tdh staff who can take care of networks and administrative tasks, as well as a driver responsible for logistics.

These teams will immediately be able to provide first aid, protection and psychological assistance. And distribute hygiene and dignity kits, which contain masks and disinfectants against Covid-19 and/or cash, depending on their urgent needs.

The nurse will identify and refer, in case of serious health reasons, to local health facilities, this may be in case of chronic diseases, suspected cases of Covid-19 infection, etc.

The psychologist will provide psychological first aid.

Help us help the Ukrainian children and women. SMS UK to 1245 and you automatically support with DKK 100

The money goes to medicine, clean water, protection and health services.

January 2022
The CSR award is presented to ABC pavilions for their support of the school for the deaf in Sri Lanka.

It is useful to support. The Deaf School in Sri Lanka is a fantastic example of the support from Denmark helping a vulnerable group of children and young people in Sri Lanka who are deaf. The children acquire skills that are otherwise difficult for a deaf person in Sri Lanka. At the same time, the project’s results will be positive for Sri Lankan society, because the inequality between different social groups will be reduced, so that this vulnerable minority group will have opportunities that are comparable to their peers. In addition to regular schooling and special education, the children also learn trades, so that they are equipped to support themselves and their families.

The support that ABC pavilions provide to the school for the deaf each year means an incredible amount to the school. The school has employed a number of teachers to teach the children, who are special teachers with exactly the right skills that are needed in connection with children who are hearing impaired. The cost of the teachers is a large item on the deaf school’s accounts, and therefore the support from ABC Pavilions is particularly welcome. Keld and Lene Facius, who have ABC pavilions, have visited the school for the deaf several times in connection with trips to Sri Lanka, seeing with their own eyes how well the school works.

In the picture, our National Chairman Linda Svartzengren presents Keld and Lene Facius with the CSR award, as a thank you for their generous help to the school for the deaf in Sri Lanka.
